BlackBerry Enterprise Server
BlackBerry Enterprise Server - How it works
Email arrives at the mail server, the
mail server delivers to your desktop email client but also sends a copy
to the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server
compresses, encrypts and forwards the message automatically to the user's
BlackBerry
handheld. The data remains encrypted between the BlackBerry device and
the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using end-to-end AES encryption.
The DES encryption has been replaced with an AES encryption as it provides better combination of security than DES or triple DES. To help further protect the confidentiality of the Personal Information Management items (PIM) such as messages, tasks, calendar and contacts the data can be encrypted locally on the handheld using password protection.
Email is forwarded to the BlackBerry
handheld via the Internet and wireless network.
The BlackBerry handheld
sends delivery confirmation to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
The confirmation is a radio-level confirmation. It confirms that the message was delivered to the blackberry handheld, but does not confirm the user has read or received the message.
The BlackBerry handheld
receives, decrypts and decompresses the email.
Once an email is received on the BlackBerry
device, any modifications or changes made to the message are then automatically
synchronised back through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server onto your desktop
(for example, emails read, deleted or filed). Contacts, calendar, notes
or personal information management items (PIM), and sent emails are also
synchronised automatically.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is unique in its ability to provide real time over the air synchronisation from desktop email client to Blackberry handheld device.
