BlackBerry Internet Mail - Frequently Asked Questions

BlackBerry FAQ's

Q. What software will I need to implement BlackBerry?

A. BlackBerry Internet Service devices require no server software, just a client side tool to synchronise contacts, calendar and other Personal Information Manager (PIM) data with your local PC/Apple Macintosh email client (Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, Entourage and other additional Apple Macintosh PIM programs).

Q. Is email reconciled between my BlackBerry Internet Service device and my Internet Service Provider (ISP) account?

A. Full two-way immediate synchronization of message status (read/unread) is supported in certain email configurations.

Q. How do I manage my email addresses with BlackBerry Internet Service?

A. With BlackBerry Internet Service you manage your email addresses through an online interface. Here you can add/remove email accounts, set email signatures and so on.

Q. What are the minimum system requirements to log in to my BlackBerry Internet Service account?

A. The following components are required to log in to BlackBerry Internet Service:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later, or Netscape Communicator 4.08 or later with JavaScript enabled.
  • Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, or Microsoft Windows NT, or Macintosh 9.0 or 10.0.

Q. Can messages from multiple email accounts be collected on a BlackBerry?

A. Yes. With the BlackBerry Internet Service you can collect up to 10 different email addresses on your BlackBerry Internet Service device. You will need to check with your internet mail provider to ensure they offer a mail forwarding service for some accounts as occasionally this is required (and some providers do charge for this).

Q. Can I view attachments on a BlackBerry Internet Service device?

A. Yes. In addition to standard document formats such as Word, Excel, PDF and .txt files, you can also view images (jpg, tiff, gif and .png) and playback MP3-encoded voicemail - up to 500KB file size.

Q. What is the frequency of email messages sent to the BlackBerry?

A. The polling interval for Yahoo!, Gmail, and Microsoft Mail Connector is one to two minutes. For standard OWA, IMAP, or POP3, the polling interval is 15 minutes. If polling reveals new mail, the following polling interval is 3 minutes.
