The problem isnt the software on the modem, but the missing services on your computer which are preventing the modem from working properly.

When trying to merge the entry, it normally shows a warning, but after pressing OK, it should still merge it.

Look at this MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279754

Apart from that, you may need further support from Sony or Microsoft to get the missing services enabled.

Default "Get profile failed" Vodafone USB key modem

MobData
I'm getting the 'get profile failed' message as well - and I'm running XP on a Toshiba laptop.

It was all working fine - then I moved to a new house, we got Virgin Media put in, I installed their software on my laptop to talk to their wireless router, and the Vodafone USB key modem stopped working. I've uninstalled the Virgin software, but I still get 'get profile failed'.

After running uninstall I searched the registry using regedit, but I couldn't find anything that looked like it needed whacking. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times (restarting between each), but no joy...

I commute for 5 hours every day and not being able to connect to the net on the move is driving me crazy (quite apart from the contract being a complete waste of money since I have hard-wired broadband at home and at work).

Any ideas? I'd be real grateful for any help.

TIA

Ian W

Hi Ian

Have you checked the registry for the Telephony Service as shown earlier in this thread?

Default service status

Hi Mob
It says "Service status: stopped" and the 'start' button is greyed-out (disabled) so I can't click it...

Take a look at this MS KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279754

Also compare the key to a system that is working correctly.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Eventlog

then export the key from the working system and import it on the problem system.

Default USB stick modem problems

Hi Mob
It's all working fine now, many many thanks! All Vodafone need to do now are sort out their woeful connections speeds (this evening I was getting transfer rates in the hundreds of bytes!).

If this was Experts Exchange I'd reward you with points. As it is you'll have to settle for me saying: "You da MAN!" ;-)

Exclamation

I have a problem with one of my computer's. i'm using windows vista home which i tweaked them using the black viper tweak for vista. i bought few days before the Vodafone VMC K3715 3G+ USB Stick. every time when i'm trying to connect i'm getting an error message "Get profile failed". The telephony services is manual and the services status is started. the other two services Remote Access Connection Manager Service and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Service are manual but when i press the button start i getting an error message "'Error 1068 The Dependency Service or Group Failed To Start". Can any one help me!

Thank you

Default Works perfectly.

This post fixed in 5 minutes what 8 hours on the phone to Vodafone didn't. THanks very much.

Chris.
