If the ExpressCard E870 installation does not start In order for the Expresscard to auto-install, Windows needs to allocate drivers to it, specifically the USB Composite Device driver, then the USB Mass storage driver.
Once the Installation gets started, Windows will install the CD/DVD Drive driver, Modem driver and finally a Port.
Without the USB Composite Device driver, the USB Mass storage driver won’t install and so the installation won’t start, in which case try the following: Windows XP/Media Center/Vista
1. Reinsert the modem
2. Try another port
3. Reboot computer Windows Vista, turn off UAC:
1. Click on Start and Search,
2. Type UAC in the search box and click OK,
3. Select Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off and remove the tick from the box.
4. Select Yes when prompted to reboot.
5. Install the software
6. Go back in to UAC and activate it again. Windows XP Media center edition, disable Media Center Services:
1. Go to the Start Menu and click Run
2. Type services.msc and click ok
3. At the services window right click each Service starting with “Media Center” and select Stop (these should be the Extender, Receiver and Scheduler services)
4. Right click each Service and select properties for each of them and change the Start up type to “Disabled”
5. Reboot the PC and reinsert the ExpressCard and retest Device Manager for Vista
1. Click on Start, Control Panel and then Device Manager Device Manager for XP
1. Click on Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware and then Device Manager
2. Locate Ports, right click on Huawei USB Modem and select Uninstall.
3. Locate Modems, right click on Huawei USB Modem and select Uninstall.
4. Locate DVD/CD Drive, right click on Huawei USB Mass Storage Device and select Uninstall.
5. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers towards the bottom of the list, right-click on USB Mass Storage Device and select Uninstall
6. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers towards the bottom of the list, right-click on USB Composite Device and select Uninstall
7. Locate PCMCIA adaptor (if its being used) towards the centre of the list, right-click and select Uninstall
8. Reboot the PC and reinsert the ExpressCard Modem and retest ExpressCard or adaptor maybe faulty
1. Try card in another laptop
2. Try another card in this laptop
3. The LEDs must be flashing or constantly lit if connected to the internet.
