Products
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0
  • SDR40997

Overview

When upgrading the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0.0 hotfix 10 to 4.0.0 hotfix 18, you receive the following messages:

"Error 1923. Service BlackBerry Controller (BlackBerry Controller) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services."

"Error 1923. Service BlackBerry Dispatcher (BlackBerry Dispatcher) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services."

"Error 1923. Service BlackBerry Alert (BlackBerry Server Alert) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services."

If you click Ignore on the error message dialog boxes, the BlackBerry Controller and BlackBerry Dispatcher are uninstalled.

If you click Retry on the error message dialog boxes, the messages continue to appear.

Cause

This issue may be caused by one of the following:
  1. The Windows® Services window is open.
  2. The BlackBerry Manager (remote or local) is open.
  3. The computer was not restarted after uninstalling BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Resolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround

Complete the appropriate workaround for your cause.

Cause 1

The Microsoft Windows Services window is open.

Workaround

Close the Services window, then click Retry in each error message dialog box. The upgrade process will complete.
OR

Close the Services window before installing the upgrade.

Cause 2

The BlackBerry Manager (remote or local) is open.

Workaround

Close all BlackBerry Manager windows (remote or local) before trying to upgrade.

Cause 3

The server was not restarted after uninstalling BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Workaround

Restart the server.

Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.Close all BlackBerry Manager windows (remote or local) before trying to upgrade.
